No Poverty

Sustainable Development Goal # 1

By: Anton Jesuraj

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) set forth by the United Nations are essential to the development of our world for all people. They act as a blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. I chose to research and learn about the first SDG: No Poverty. The main focus of this goal is to end poverty in all its forms, across the globe.

I believe my SDG is very important in the lives of children, locally and globally. As we work towards achieving this goal and educating children on the SDG’s, we hope to help children gain awareness of the complexities associated with this issue. Additionally, it may encourage children to appreciate the things in their life even more.

Around 700 million people live in extreme poverty. This accounts to roughly 10% of the world’s population, many of which are children. Through working to achieve this SDG, not only will we help provide shelter, food, fresh water, to those without, but we hope to open up opportunities for children to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty.

I believe nations need to actively implement this goal and set related mandates to make strides towards a more equitable world for all. These goals will help nations prosper, not only economically, but also in terms of quality of life and overall happiness!
