Youth Spotlight: Meet Sadia

Tell us about the work you do: 

I am a youth mental health advocate based in Toronto, ON. I worked with youth across Canada to start conversations about mental health and discuss the role it plays in our lives. I am especially passionate about discussing mental health education, in both our schools and communities. I strongly believe that everyone should grow up having the basic education they need to take proper care of themselves. 


What inspires you?


I am inspired by the youth I talk to through my work. I love hearing their stories and different lived experiences. It helps open by eyes to the unique experiences youth are dealing with and how we can better support them. With every conversation I have, I learn more about the different challenges young people are facing across Canada when it comes to their mental health. I am inspired and motivated to make change in the mental health landscape for all youth.


Why is advocacy important to you?

Through the years, advocacy has played a huge role in my life. To me it has helped me find a purpose and a passion. Advocacy means that I am using my voice to speak on issues that are most important to me and my community.

What is a message you want to share with the world?

Talking about mental health should be something we normalize. Talking about how we feel and how we can better support one another is so important. That starts in our homes and in our classrooms. Mental health is something that should be prioritized everyday so that young people grow up with a better understanding of how to take care of themselves and everyone around them.  


What sparks joy in your life?

 I am fortunate to have some amazing people in my life who bring me so much joy. My family and friends are my biggest supporters and are there for me every step of the way. They bring me up when I am feeling down and help keep me motivated. They make me so happy! Oh and my dog, Oreo, brings me so much joy!
